Food High In Protein - What Are They And Are They Safe?

Proteins have a long list of uses for the human body. First and foremost, it is the protein that makes up the major bulk of the flesh of the body. Proteins are singly responsible for tissue building and muscle building, which is what makes up the major part of the body. Not only that; proteins are responsible for repairing the wear and tear to the cells of the body. Apart from that proteins are also needed for the general wellbeing of the body. Most antibodies and hormones produced in the body are also proteins.

With protein playing such a vital role in most functions of the body, it is no wonder that most diets are today concentrating on foods high in protein. These high protein diets, as they are so called, are targeted at making the body stronger and fitter, and more capable of performing the tasks set to it. A high protein intake is directly related with stronger muscles and a more athletically strong body, which is the current trend for a perfect body shape.

High protein diets have been made popular by the bodybuilders and athletes. We know of wrestlers who have eaten twelve eggs at one go, or eaten a whole chicken for a meal. These are high protein foods and are definitely aimed at increasing the overall body tone. The effectiveness of these diets is demonstrated in the fact that they make the body leaner and more active, rather than some other diets that cause weight loss, but make the person end up with a lethargic, inactive body.

Why do foods high in protein work so well for the body? For one reason, they can cause the repair to all the muscles and ligaments that we break during our normal activities. Since proteins can bring about an increase in the number of cells, they also cause a constructive growth of our body. A constructive growth means a growth in muscle mass, and not in fat. Most high protein diets will also be low in carbohydrates and fats; which means that they will be able to reduce the obesity of the body. This itself will help protect the body from several problems in later life.

Experts and nutritionists do suggest complementing a high protein intake with a healthy exercise regime. They suggest opening the day with a workout and then following it up with a high protein breakfast. This helps to immediately repair the loss of muscle that has occurred within the day. Then nothing should be eaten till lunchtime, which will also be a protein rich diet. A protein rich diet does not mean that carbohydrates and fats will be totally eliminated; only they will be reduced.

The dinner is also made rich in proteins. This is very important, because the high protein intake taken in the nighttime will help the body to repair the worn down cells during the course of the day. In the morning, when the person wakes up, the body will have returned to its fully healthy state.

Another nutritionist advice is that people on high protein diets should not have only the two meals per day, but they should break down their eating to five to six small portions of proteins in the total span of the day. The contention is that this breakup will introduce proteins slowly into the body, which will be helpful in repairing the body much more effectively.
